ALA Council favors ASCLA/FAFLRT Merger

Members and leaders of ASCLA and FAFLRT (Federal and Armed Forces Libraries Round Table) have been working for two years to plan the merger of the two groups. The process reached a milestone at the 2018 Midwinter Conference, where the ALA Committee on Organization (COO) approved the request for dissolution of FAFLRT and the subsequent merger with ASCLA to form the new Association of Specialized, Government, and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASGCLA).

The recommendation was presented to ALA Council during Midwinter where it passed with outstanding support. We thank the four speakers who spoke in favor, Mike Marlin (ALA Executive Board member and liaison to ASCLA), Brian Greene (ASCLA member and Councilor from Wyoming), Pat Hogan (Councilor representing Round Tables), and Richard Huffine (FAFLRT treasurer).

With this approval from ALA Council, ASCLA and FAFLRT will continue to work on the many details necessary for a smooth transition to ASGCLA in September 2018. Thanks to all who are working on the merger and to those who have given comments and input. Watch for updates as the merger plans progress.
