FAFLRT Members Recognized

Master Gunnery Sergeant (USMC) Jane Cross, Chief, US Marine Band Library & Archives, was awarded the 2018 Achievement Award during the ASCLA/FAFLRT Achievement Awards Breakfast & Ceremony at the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans on Saturday, June 23, 2018.

Jane is the head of the Marine Band Library, which contains sound recordings and music scores created by and used by the Marine Band.  Jane, who currently holds the highest position of her type in the country is also an active member of the Music Library Association. Her job is exceptionally unique and requires a great deal more than just reference and reader’s advisory. It requires that she be well versed in copyright, licensing, public relations, human resources, management, cataloging, special collections/archives and history. Jane eloquently summed up the importance of driving education and resources throughout our county during her acceptance speech “The variety of education and experience each of us brings to the library helps forge the dynamically creative team required to best serve our organization and our nation”.

Other FAFLRT members recognized during the ceremony include Janice Young, Librarian, U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Scientific and Technical Information with the 2018 Distinguished Service Award and Stefanie Falco, MLIS Student, University of Alabama and Reference Assistant, College of DuPage with the 2018 Adelaide Del Frate Conference Sponsorship Award.

ASCLA and FAFLRT will merge on September 1, 2018 to become ASGCLA, the Association of Specialized, Government and Cooperative Library Agencies.
